Overview:
The media relations manager will work with the team developing the regional press strategy for seasonal fashion, home, cosmetics/fragrance media outreach, in-store events, execution of national campaigns and cause marketing programs. Media outreach includes regional iconic events like Atlanta's Pink Pig, The Great Tree-lighting, Macy's Florida Teacher of the Year Program and celebrity personal appearances. Other responsibilities include managing the budget, media tracking and media point person. This person will be energetic, highly motivated, conscientious and detail-oriented - a self-starter who takes initiative in developing new ideas and solving problems.
Key Accountabilities:
Develop and assist execution of major consumer media relations efforts to support the company's reputation as the premier destination for fashion and home, as well as the icon of major regional events, the home of popular/desirable brands, and a partner to our communities for volunteerism and charitable support.
Creates PR collateral including press kits, press releases, fact sheets, media gifts, photography, and media video packages
Creates talking points/messaging for major stories, annual events, and corporate initiatives such as store openings and cause-related marketing programs including launch of ""Rwanda baskets"" and ""Go Red for Women"" campaign
Creates editorial and advertorial content for magazines and newspapers
Serves as a company spokesperson in regional and local media
Serves as media contact for regional and local media, as well as the internet
Crisis management - crafts statements and manages communication flow by serving as liaison to customer service, consumer affairs, legal and internal communications
Troubleshoots corporate issues include serving as PR contact for internal communications when crisis/emergency issues arise in stores
Supports television shoots and specials, as well as, movies, documentaries, books, and music videos
Trains Macy*s executives on media interaction
Works with other PR teams to share our best practices and position statements
Identifies and works with both traditional and emerging social media contacts
Provides strategic guidance to regional Macy's executives as needed
Manage budget.
Track, compile and report media coverage.
Lead media outreach for multi-cultural and cause campaigns
Skill Summary:
BA/BS in communications-related field, with at least 5 years of experience in public relations, media relations, communications or related area.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Bi-lingual (Spanish) required.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Effective command of language and writing (communications plans, press materials, executive messaging/presentations, etc.)
Proven history of success in working with/pitching reporters.
Comfortable appearing on camera.
Background in retail or other consumer business; general knowledge of the department store business a plus.
Proven ability to work with internal and external executives, organizations, sponsors, vendors, and government agencies.
Exhibits strong communication and presentation skills to effectively articulate company goals to various publics including media and ultimate consumer.
Advanced use of Microsoft Office suite and other software programs.
Must be able to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to oversee departmental budgets, generate quarterly media re-caps and maintain media lists.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
